Nicole was challenged to write about her summer vacation by her first grade teacher. Before we left for NY, Nicole wrote about how she was going to go to NYC ("the sity") and see the Statue of Liberty. So being the compliant parents we are, we decided to hit the city (NYC) while we were visiting NY. This is one of my favorite things to do. I really wanted the girls to see the big buildings, ride the subway and see all the different kind of people there are in this world. We visited the World Trade Center site (see pics). You just don't realize how big of a hole these buildings left until you see it up close. We tried to talk to the girls about what happened there, so that when they learn about it in school, they could relate it to this. We then walked about an hour down to Battery Park, where you can see the Statue of Liberty from afar. Morgan was more interested then Nicole when we finally did see Lady Liberty. We then took the subway up to Times Square and ate lunch. Five pieces of pizza and two drinks cost close to $40, but who can complain when Nicole says "this is the best pizza I have ever tasted". I hope so Nic for that price!!!!! Then off to ToysRus we go. We rode on the Ferris wheel inside of the store and got the Nick Jr. car and Little people car. We were on the ride for about 20 minutes. It was great looking at this three story store from a Ferris wheel. I forgot to mention, that Grandma and Papa Nugent got dragged into this trip. I hope they enjoyed it. We finished up our trip to the city by visiting the M&M store. This store has anything and everything M&M and about thirty different colors of the candy that you can buy. Twenty dollars of M&M's later ($10.95/pound) we were off back to the subway to eat our treat. The girls did great walking and riding the subway. Just happy to be able to stand up on some sort of transportation. After finding our parking spot and contributing way more than reasonable to the parking attendant we were stuck in the tunnel traffic for an hour(about 1/2 mile away). All in all, just how we wanted to spend our day in the city, and hopefully exciting enough to make the "what I did this summer" report.
